Promising Paws Inc – Surrender Policy

At Promising Paws Inc, we understand that the decision to surrender a dog is never easy. Our priority is ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and successful rehoming of all dogs in our care.

Please note: All surrender applications must be reviewed and approved prior to any surrender taking place. Our shelter has limited capacity, with space for a maximum of 10 dogs at any one time.

Surrenders are subject to availability and may be delayed if we are at capacity. In some cases, we may be able to arrange a foster carer, if one is available. If you are able to foster your dog until a permanent home is found, this is often the best outcome for the dog’s wellbeing and helps us manage space more effectively.

We appreciate your understanding and support.

To assist with this process, please review and adhere to the following surrender requirements.

Requirements Prior to Surrender:

1. Proof of Ownership

You must provide valid proof of ownership. Acceptable documents include:

o Vet records

o Microchip registration details

o Council registration

o Purchase or adoption receipt

2. Heartworm Testing

A heartworm test must be completed within 30 days prior to surrender. A copy of the results must be submitted with the surrender form.

3. Surrender Fee

A surrender fee of $250 applies to assist with rehoming costs including food, medical care, and behavioural assessments.

o This fee is non-refundable.

o Additional donations are appreciated and can be noted on the surrender form.

4. Dog Behaviour & History

A full behavioural history and any known issues must be disclosed.

This includes:

o Aggression (to people or other animals)

o Separation anxiety

o Medical conditions

o Any known triggers or handling requirements

o Training history (basic obedience, socialisation, etc.)

5. Rehoming Contribution (Optional)

If you are in a position to contribute further to your dog’s rehoming (e.g. training, medical support), please indicate on the form provided.
